MONOLIGHTS

A new selection of lighting using Monoprinting on fine Japanese paper laminated with polycarbonate or acrylic sheet.See "Contemporary Lighting" section for designs, products and prices.
Monoprinting is a method of producing one off images. Ink is drawn, painted, smeared or spattered onto glass or metal plates and this image is then transferred onto paper by passing it through a a mechanical press or pushing down the back by hand with a roller.

Ever since being at art school I have always loved drawing and have continued this practice all through life, now with the new monolights I am using this mark making process to produce the lamp shades directly. I use a very fluid medium applied with syringe, reed pens, sticks and bits of rubber. The ink almost has a life of its own and the element of chance is, to me, the most exciting part of the process, not being in total control and not knowing exactly how the final print will turn out, but being surprised and sometimes delighted how the ink has run to produce a final image.
